Thor Curcio recently retired from the US Air Force after 29 years, where he was a Cyber Operations Officer. He has served in both the operational and intelligence arenas, and has experience with fixed and deployable communications, as well as theater communications management. He has also deployed in support of Balkan air operations as well as Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and INHERENT RESOLVE.
Additionally, he commanded three communications squadrons, and served as a Deputy Commander for a 3,000-person Joint Base Mission Support Group and Air Expeditionary Group that supported joint and multinational forces.
Thor is a highly motivated and driven specialist with excellent skills in management and process organization. He is adept at project management and strategy development along with a focused expertise in information technology. Thor continually strives for process enhancement by means of detailed analysis and investigation of operations. In addition, he has impeccable communication and leadership skills that helped supervise large cross-functional organizations, ensuring a thorough execution of critical tasks and projects.
As a Communications Squadron Commander, Thor oversaw a communications infrastructure worth $620 million that included 32 Microsoft servers, over 7,500 Windows clients, managed 550 Cisco data and 12 Avaya voice switches, and provided client technical support. He directed base-wide and enterprise-wide projects, as well as championed an $820 thousand LAN project and $4 million in communications infrastructure projects.
During his tenure he earned Air Mobility Command’s General Rawlings Team of the Year award twice for leading large-scale network security projects.
In his final assignment in the Air Force he was the Wing Inspector General for the Department of Defense’s only tri-service Joint Base. During this period, he ensured compliance and support to 50,000 personnel and 88 mission partners, from all five services as well as active duty, reserve, and guard components, and was responsible for $9.3 billion in physical assets across 42,000 acres.
Additionally, Thor coordinated and led large cross-functional exercises and assessments with joint and community partners that were consistently praised by senior leadership.
